These Cookies Crumbl

Dear Reader,

Are you a fan of change? Do you like unlimited options?

Depending on how you answered the above, you may have very strong positive or negative feelings about this cookie place called “Crumbl.” Crumbl is the new cookie place that is spreading like wildfire across the country, as of July 2022, there are over 500 locations nationwide.

As you may have expected, Crumbl is not your ordinary cookie shop. For one, it only offers six cookie flavors at a time. Each week, the company Instagram releases the flavors of the week. Always, there is the classic milk chocolate chip cookie, but then, there are also the rotating flavors, including, for example, frosted strawberry pop tart, double fudge brownie, lemon cupcake, and many, many more. But, don’t browse through the Instagram stories on an empty stomach…they are mouthwatering indeed.

So, if you are in love with a particular flavor, you may be disappointed to learn that it is only available for a limited time (though flavors do often repeat). However, if you are a fan of the cookies, you may also be delighted to find that you can easily find new favorites. Crumbl cookies are quite large and decadent (many of them feature a dollop of icing). Perhaps, for these reasons, one cookie is also on the expensive side (+$4.00).

My friend and I drove out to Crumbl on a rainy day (and by rainy, I mean torrential downpour/ flash flooding). We scurried from the car into the small shop. The atmosphere is bright and open with white and pink walls and the kitchen is fully exposed to the public. Behind the front counter we could see a hulking slab of dough sitting on a worktable and a few employees kneading, mixing, frosting, and completing other important cookie tasks.

While I had never heard of it before our outing, my friend was pumped to try a few new flavors. The menu was, as you may expect, very easy to understand — just the six flavors, no sizes/ customizations, super simple. We visited around Independence Day, and I ended up getting a Patriotic Birthday Cake cookie, which was topped with a cream cheese frosting, sprinkles, and it was served warm. My friend ended up selecting the cornbread cookie topped with a honey butter glaze and a butter cream frosting. The cornbread cookie was also served warm, however, there was one cookie on the menu, a blue raspberry ICEE cookie that was served cool (…I’m low-key craving it right now, ugh). We placed the order and waited a few minutes for the cookies. When we were called to the pick-up counter, a staff member greeted us and individually unboxed the cookies (one cookie per box) and asked us if we found everything to be okay — they were perfect.

Small cookies in the back are for catering

These cookies have a lot of hype, but how do they taste?? For one — sugary. These cookies are super sweet through and through — the cookie, the icing, and any glazes/ toppings are all saccharine, so if you do not have a sweet tooth, then, perhaps, Crumbl is not for you. Also, these cookies are heavy, thick, and crumbly. Eating them was a struggle, as every time I attempted to pick up the cookie it crumbled apart (I guess the name is fitting!), which is to say — these cookies are messy. Also, the Crumbl that we visited did not have any seating (I’m unsure whether this is the case at every location), which meant my friend and I ate the cookies in the car (wouldn’t want the fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies to cool before consumption 😉 ).

While I enjoyed my experience and liked the cookie I tried, overall, I was not a huge fan of Crumbl. My less-than-effusive reaction stems from the fact that I’m just not a fan of super sugary treats, but also, because these cookies are huge. While huge cookies are not a bad thing, I think I would have preferred smaller (and cheaper lol) cookies, which could make it easier to select a few different flavors rather than commit to just one or two.

Regardless, if you are craving cookies, Crumbl is certainly worth a try! And, if there isn’t a location by you yet, just you wait 🙂

Love,

Raven
